and below are the more popular ones. Hope this is a good guideline when you buy your next scarf. 

Acrylic 

Acrylic is a synthetic fiber that is used as an alternative to wool. It provide almost the same warmth as wool, minus the price tag. This fabric is very popular, because of it's cost and also warmth. Some manufacturer may mix some nature fibre to aplease the critics.

 

Alpaca 

Alpaca scarves is made of the wool of an alpaca, a species of camelid found in South America. They are usually mistaken as llamas. Their wool is so silky and shiny. It's natural fiber, is very similar to sheep’s wool, but definitely warmer and softer. Alpaca scarves are perfect for the winter season.

 

Cashmere 

Cashmere scarves are made of fabric that comes from cashmere goat. The wool of this animal is extremely soft and light weight, but still warm. This is why many people choose this for winter – it keeps you warm, but it isn’t as bulky as other kinds of fabric. There are some scarves blend with with silk and some wool. 

 

Chiffon 

Chiffon scarves are made from woven fabric which is a combination of synthetic fibers, silk and cotton. You know a scarf is made of chiffon when it is a bit coarse to touch. It is slightly stretchy as well. Chiffon scarves are best used for the summer season. 

 

Cotton

Jersey 

Jersey fabric is a knitted and stretchable material that is very light and breathable. It may be made from cotton, synthetic fibers or wool. Thick jersey scarves may be used for colder days and thin ones for warmer days. 

 

Linen 

Linen is very popular, because it is one of the most breathable types of fabric. It’s very cooling to use and light as well which makes it perfect for warm days. Linen is basically made from the fibers of the flax plant. 

 

Satin 

Contrary to popular belief, not all satin scarves are thin, some are actually thick. Satin comes from woven polyester or silk and is very glossy. They may be used for summer or winter depending on the thickness of the scarf. 

 

Silk

Silk comes from larvae cocoons of mulberry silkworm. The silkworm creates a natural protein fiber which makes silk very lustrous, shiny and soft. However, there is also a matte alternative if you don’t prefer the shiny one. Silk is a breathable fabric just like cotton and is perfect for summer. 

 

Viscose 

Viscose scarf is made from wood pulp, and manufacturers often use different sources such as bamboo. Since it begins with wood, it is not a synthetic material. The development of viscose has made it possible for many people to enjoy a wide array of quality scarves, without paying a lot of money for a luxurious look and feel. Viscose breathes like cotton and has a feel that is pleasing to the touch. Great for all seasons, because it is breathable and also keep warm in colder months of autumn and spring. 

 

Wool 

Wool is a very popular material used for scarves. It comes from the fleece of sheep and is very warm and thick. There is also merino which is a a breed of sheep, it wool is very fine and soft. There is also possum merino as well, which is popular from New Zealand.
